Church History

A Brief History of Huber Heights Baptist Temple

The story of Huber Huber Heights Baptist Temple is one of God's faithfulness, the dedication of His people,
and a shared vision to reach the community for Christ.

Church Building

The Beginning (1972-1975)

Huber Heights Baptist Temple began in November 1972 when the Lord led a small group of believers to step out in faith. For many months the congregation gathered in homes and schools. With seven acres of land, a deep commitment to prayer, and hard work, the members set aside $10,000 for their first building and completed much of the construction with their own hands. The original sanctuary, seating about 120, was dedicated on December 7, 1975.

Church Auditorium

Expanding for Ministry (1978-1980)

God's blessings were evident as the church family quickly outgrew the first building. Plans were soon made for a larger facility that could seat approximately 400 and the congregation again united in faith and service to construct a new sanctuary. This new facility was joyfully dedicated on May 7, 1978.

Ministry continued to expand, and in the fall of 1980, construction began on additional office space, adding over 700 square feet of much-needed office space for church staff and administrative work.

Building Construction

Building for the Future (1982)

By 1982 the church launched its fourth building project, enlarging the auditorium by 80 seats, creating four spacious basement classrooms for Sunday School and discipleship, adding a welcoming foyer, installing a new upstairs sound room, and building a convenient drive-thru carport—all designed to enhance worship and fellowship.

Academy Class In Front Of Church

Huber Heights Christian Academy (1983-2021)

In 1983 the church launched Huber Heights Christian Academy, a ministry combining academic excellence with biblical truth. The school opened with 51 students and eventually reached a peak enrollment of 74. For 38 years, the Academy served as a beacon of Christian education, shaping young lives for Christ and touching countless families until its closing.

Gymnasium

The Family Life Center - Waddle Hall (1991)

Following God's continued leading, the church undertook its fifth major project: the Family Life Center (Waddle Hall). Dedicated on April 21, 1991, this addition provided a gymnasium, kitchen, classrooms, and restrooms, creating valuable space for fellowship, youth activities, and community outreach.

Former Pastor Zimmerman

Founding Pastor - Pastor Chuck Zimmerman

Huber Heights Baptist Temple was founded under the leadership of Pastor Chuck Zimmerman. Born in 1941 and raised in Dayton, he came to Christ just before his 27th birthday. After years of singing gospel music, God called him to preach in January 1974, and in April 1974 he became pastor of Huber Heights Baptist Temple. For over 52 years his faithful ministry has made Huber Heights Baptist Temple a beacon of Bible preaching and soul-winning in the community.
